Life-Centered Education Program
Students enrolled in the Life-centered Education Program spend themajority of the school day mastering life/independent living skills. Some of these skills include food and nutrition, consumer education, community and home living, vocational education and human development.Students are also introduced to the world of work and the many adult responsibilities they will face, both on and off the job, such as decision making, money management and establishing adult relationships.
Career exploration is also offered in combination with classroom instruction and hands-on experiences through job simulations. Students receive classroom instruction in job skills training such as getting to work on time, clocking in and interacting appropriately with peers and supervisors. Students in the program practice these skills and receive further instruction and feedback in simulated job experiences.
The learning environment of the Life-CenteredEducation Classroom (LCE) extends beyond the classroom and includes the use and mastery of resources within the community. Applying learned skills to real life situations is an integral part of the program.
